This project was also a longish one. It was done on a Mac in QuarkXpress. The catalog was in English in the original, and the translation into French came in as an MS-Word document. We did cut-n-paste, segment by segment, prior to doing the formatting. (This method is a slow-going approach - we much prefer TagEditor files.)
The usage of Master Pages was of great help; it allowed for global changes to some parts of the pages and allowed us to maintain consistency. It's nice to see good design work.

Catalog for various school districts

This job was done on a Mac, using Adobe InDesign CS2. The English original was in InDesign and the translations were in MS-Word. (Translation was into Russian).
It was a long project - 580 pages total. One of the advantages of a project of larger scope is that you can gain familiarity with the project, its parameters and the elements to modify on each document. There were some minor issues with the client's cyrillic fonts, which were easily remedied.

Heavy Machinery User's Manual. Received as a Quark (PC) document in Englsih. Translation into Lithuanian was provided by the client. We did the multilingual DTP on it.

User's Manual in QuarkXpress

User's Manual received in Quark for PC in English. Our task was to produce the same layout in Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese. The formatting job was done in A4-size paper, with high-resolution images, linked externally to reduce file weight.

Manual (PageMaker, PC)

Manual for electromechanic processes. The project was laid out in PageMaker for PC originally, in English. Project scope included English-Spanish translation and desktop-publishing. What made this project a bit more complex was the use of tabs in the original layout instead of setting up columns - a practice we discourage (with the Spanish language spillover, the tabulation got grossly misconfigured, and it basically required reworking the columns entirely.)

Promotional Brochure (InDesign, Mac)

Presentation brochure for an innovative printing system. Tabloid-size pages in InDesign, on Mac platform. We received the English original along with the French translation in MS Word format. We then copied and pasted the translation into InDesign, and adjusted the text boxes, styles and font sizes to create a good match to the original.

Informational Health Bulletin

This was an InDesign CS layout on Mac platform, consisting of 6 pages in English. The project involved multilingual desktop publishing of the translation into Russian and Chinese. Care was given to match the font look&feel even as we worked in different alphabets.

German Brochure (Quark, PC)

A letter-sized brochure about high-performance gears. It came in as a Quark document, in English, together with its translation into German. We laid out the German text, making the appropriate adjustments to allow for language overspill.

Plastics Catalog (Copyflow & Quark, Mac)

Plastic accessories catalog. The original layout was in French, designed in Quark for Mac. We did text-extraction using Copyflow Gold, and the content was then translated into Spanish, German and English. Then we reinsterted the .XTG files through Copyflow Gold and produced the multilingual DTP of the translations into these three languages. As usual with text extraction projects, the text we flowed back in had several omissions (especially embedded images), so the project required close attention to detail and several internal proofing rounds before we considered it client-worthy.

Tourism brochure - English into Spanish, French, Italian (Quark 5.0, Mac)

This is a touristic brochure in A5-sized booklet-format. We received it as a Quark 5 document in English, and did multilingual desktop publishing into Spanish, French and Italian. The text and images were slightly modified based on client requests. This is a Mac project, we used Quark Passport 6.1 on an Apple G5 and then downgraded to Quark 5.0 upon saving the final file.

Trifold project, Health-Insurance related. Working from an English document, our Effective Translations team translated the content into Spanish. The desktop publishing focused on text flow, handling of language overspill, elimination of widows and orphans and of course making the final product match the original in look & feel.

This catalog came in English with a corresponding translation in MS Word. Text was poured in and laid out. It required quite a few layout adjustments to compensate for language length differences during the desktop publishing phase.

InDesign Project. Two 2-on-1 sheets. The original was an English document, translated into FIGS (French, Italian, German and Spanish) and sent in Word format (.doc). We then placed it into the original layout correcting language spillover, addressing orphans and widows and ensuring the content fit correctly and matched the original.
